Having the balls for it Part 2

For anyone who is worried about going in for a vasectomy. I have to say the operation was a lot less scary or painful than I thought beforehand.

Getting the injection was by far the worst part. Its an odd sensation you can feel the anaesthetic going in very clearly, The operation was no more uncomfortable than having a stranger checking your balls over would be. It was also over a lot quicker than I thought. I spent half an hour chatting to the surgeon about Christmas presents and then 10 minutes chatting to a nurse while drinking a glass of juice and a biscuit and I was on my way. I’ve been through worse project meetings.

I had heard horror stories about the pain afterwards. I have to say that when the anaesthetic wears off it does feel like someone has kicked you in the balls very hard. I just wanted to take some Ibuprofen and sit with a bag of peas on my crotch  and a book to read and not move very far and certainly not very fast.

After a good nights sleep however I feel uncomfortable rather than sore – like a pulled muscle moves in certain directions do gyp, but nothing that a couple of paracetamol can’t cope with. Supportive underwear certainly helps. I’m taking seriously all the recommendations to take it easy for a couple of days. Everyone I’ve spoken to and everything I’ve read  says total rest is the best way to avoid any complications and to recover quickly.

We were lucky that a very good friend could come over yesterday and help my other half with the child-wrangling. This morning the two of them have taken eldest daughter to her gymnastics, and are minding youngest daughter while I sit and relax.

It must be the first Saturday in ages that there is nothing I must do or need to rush around and achive. If it wasn’t for the discomfort this would be positively bliss.

East Lothian dad. Likes bad jokes and comic songs. Mostly tired, tries to stay cheerful. Thinks space is awesome. Would like to write more code and better docs.
